Why Two Rivers Church?

 

Our name speaks to a missional alignment that we will constantly pursue. Jesus said in John 4:24, that His worshipers would worship Him in Spirit and Truth.

 

These two rivers; or traditions, we call Word and Spirit are often expressed independently or in a lop-sided form. Typically, the Word tradition is seen in the modern day evangelical church, where there is a strong emphasis placed on Bible study, scripture memorization, and the authority of God’s Word. Likewise, the Spirit tradition is seen in the modern day charismatic church, where expressive worship, gifts of the Spirit, and God’s manifest presence are emphasized.

 

Two Rivers Church borrows from the best of both traditions while rejecting man made extremes.

From the Word tradition, we will reject the extreme of legalism, and from the Spirit tradition we will reject the extreme of emotionalism.
